Fairy Queen Train

This is a heritage train, which was started way back in 1855 for the East India Railway by Kinston, Thompson and Hewitson a British firm. The steam engine is the oldest working engine in the world and has been certified by the Guinness book of record.

The Fairy Queen Train was started again in 1997 from Delhi to Alwar.
The Fairy Queen Train has 50 first class chair cars and a pantry car for onboard catering.

Some facts and features of the Fairy Queen Train.

The train was named in 1895 as Fairy Queen, and the service was stopped in 1908.
The Fairy Queen was first exhibited in the National Rail Museum in 1971.
The Fairy Queen was completely overhauled in Perambur Workshop of the Southern Railway in 1996.
In 1997 the Fairy Queen was ready for its first trip which commenced on 18.07.97.
The Fairy Queen was certified by the Guinness book of record as the oldest working locomotive on 13.01.98.
The prime minister of India awarded the Fairy Queen on 25.01.99 with the National Tourism Award.

The weight of the Fairy Queen is 26 Tonnes.
The coal tender can carry 20 Tonnes.
The water capacity is 2000 liters.
The horse power is 130.
It runs on Broad gauge.
The maximum speed is 40kmph.
It has 2 outside cylinders.

The Fairy Queen Train will take you to Alwar, from where you will take a short drive and reach Lake Palace Siliserh for high tea and a cultural program. Then head for Sariska for dinner and   overnight stay.  

In the morning you will take a jeep safari to the Tiger Sanctuary and check out the tiger in its natural habitat. There are a lot of wild animals like leopards, sambhars and chinkara also. The town of Sariska has temples built in the 9th and the 10th century also.
After breakfast at Sariska you will head back to the Alwar Museum and immerse yourself in the rich heritage of the place.

Departure from Alwar station in the afternoon, and light lunch on board the Fairy Queen Train. Arrival at Delhi Cantonment Railway Station.
