Lamayuru to Alchi

This trek will be a pleasure trip or a walk in the park in comparison with the other treks; you will be visiting some of the oldest and the most prominent monasteries in the region. The monasteries have different murals and there is the Alchi monastery which houses iconography in the Kashmir style. You will have an opportunity to visit and enjoy the many sites of Ladakh with its natural and untouched beauty.

Itenary

Day-1

You will reach Delhi and visit the Red fort and other monuments. Stay will be in hotel.

Day-2

The flight to Leh (3500 meters) will be in the morning, you will take the day to acclimatize. Stay will be in hotel.

Day-3

You will today get in touch with the place as you will take some short walks to the Leh palace, Gompa and the Shanti-Stupa; these short walks have the added advantage of getting you to acclimatize. Stay will be in hotel.

Day-4

Today we will drive to Lamayuru (3 hours drive) and trek onwards to Wanla (3250 meters).
The drive will be alongside the river Indus; we will be visiting the Lamayuru Gompa built in the 10th century by the Rinche Zangpo, this Gompa has an amazing collection of frescoes, carpets and Thangkas.
The first part of the trek will start after an early lunch as you will trek to Wanla in 4 hours, we will trek alongside the stream and then go up the gorge to Pritikingir-La (3506 meters) after descending steeply we will come across Wanla village where we will be camping for the night. Stay will be in tents.

Day-5
We will trek to Hinju (3750 meters) today the total trekking time will be 6 hours and we will be covering 10 kilometers approximately, after following the dusty road we will arrive at Phenji-la (3410 meters) then we will trek alongside a stream to Hinju village where we will interact with the locales and then go on to our campsite. Stay will be in tents.

Day-6

Today we will trek onwards to Sumdha-Chenmo (3920 meters) and we will be covering 8 kilometers in 5 hours. The trek will take you to Kongske-La (4900 meters) from here the views of the surrounding peaks is absolutely stunning and breathtaking, on the north are the Nubra and Shayok Peaks and on the south are the Zanskar peaks. We will then descent to our campsite situated right next to the village of Sumdha-Chenmo. Stay will be in tents.

Day-7

We will trek to Sumdha-Chun and we will cover 7 kilometers in 6 hours and go through meadows and cross several small streams and will cross the river 4 times to reach the village of Sumdha-Chun, the main attraction of this place is the Monastery built in the Alchi times. Stay will be in tents.

Day-8

From here we will trek to Alchi covering 10 kilometers in 8 hours, we will trek upwards to the Stakspi-La (4955 meters) through a rough stretch of rocky ground but the view more then makes up for the tough trek to Stakspi-La, we will descent to Alchi after going through rough terrain which leads in to a meadow. We will stay in tents.

Day-9

Today we will check out the Alchi Monastery which is situated on the ground unlike lots of other monasteries which are built on the mountain tops, there are some very interesting frescos on the walls on the Alchi monastery.
The trek will finish here and we will drive on wards to the Likir monastery founded in the 12th century but rebuilt in the 18th century because a fire destroyed some parts of the monastery. The main attraction of this Gompa is the statue of the lord Buddha which is 30 meters high and was built by the monks residing in the Gompa itself, there is a museum on the top floor of the Gompa which contains weapons and Thangkas of the by gone era. Stay will be in tents\hotel.

Day-10

We will be going back to Leh by Jeep early in the morning as we will be doing some sightseeing over here.
The trip will consist of the Shey, Thiksey monastery, Hemis monastery and the Stok Palace.
We will visit Shey which was the ancient capital of Ladakh which has a impressive Gompa with a statue of the Sakyamuni Buddha which has a massive silver lamp burning right in front of it, from here we will visit the Thiksey monastery and the Hemis Gompa which is the richest and the largest monastery of Ladakh. The Stok place Museum has an impressive collection of old weapons, precious and semi-precious stones, Ladakhi artifacts and the crown of the king of Ladakh and the necklace of the Queen.
Then will stroll in the busy bazaar of Leh and shop for souvenirs for folks back home.
Stay will be in hotel.

Day-11

The flight to Delhi will be in the morning.
After reaching Delhi we will go on a short trip to the Bazaars of Delhi as well as visit the old part of the town. Stay will be in hotel.

Day-12

The flight back to your destination will be from Delhi Airport.

The tour is all inclusive.

We will provide porters and packed lunch.

The permits will be taken by us.

Important: get good walking shoes.

If you don’t have sleeping bags these will also be provided.

Important: it is highly recommended and very important that you get proper acclimatization before embarking on a trek.
