Trek to Roopkund in Garhwal

Base - Chamoli District
Region - Garhwal Himalayas
Altitude - 5029 m above Sea Level
Trek Grade - V
Season - June & Sept-Oct

The best time of come here is last week of August to last week of October.

The famous mystery lake of Garhwal Roopkund is reached after trekking through lush green grassy land and conifer forest with the fantastic views of the mighty peaks - Trishul (7120 M) and Nanda Ghungti (6310 M).

The trek subsequently winds its way along the Pindar River. The buggyals of Bedni & Ali are carpeted with flowers for most of the trekking season; Bedni bugyal and Bhagwawasa are the most beautiful places in this trek.

You must have 8 days to enjoy the trek to Roopkund. It is a 40km trek from the last road head.

The mystery which surrounds this lake is quite intriguing.

Here bones and fossils of around 300 people and some horses were found which has led to a lot of theories about what happened. Some people believe that General Zorawar Singh was coming back after raiding Tibet and china with his men and was caught in a snowstorm and trapped. The fossils are in quite a good state because of the cold weather conditions.

You will be passing through the holy towns of Rishikesh and Haridwar on your way to the trek.
